Clinical Trial Coordinator - Retinal Gene Therapy

This position is located within the Retinal Gene Therapy Unit at the Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA). Our Unit is committed to investigating gene therapy as a potential sight saving treatment and this role will contribute to fostering key developments in this field. Our Unit is driven to help find cures for inherited forms of retinal disease.

Our Unit is led by Dr Thomas Edwards, a vitreo-retinal surgeon with international expertise in gene therapy trials (Oxford, UK) and Associate Professor Lauren Ayton, a clinician-researcher with expertise in clinical trial outcomes and vision restoration therapies.

About the role

  • Working alongside Trial Coordinators, Researchers and Principal Investigators to conduct clinical trials which includes, but is not limited to, administrative tasks associated with participant visits, data management and reporting of outcomes to various stakeholders (i.e., relevant research ethics office)
  • Perform trial participant assessments as required by study protocols including subjective refractions, best corrected visual acuity, intraocular pressure, optical coherence tomography (OCT) and other imaging scans, perimetry and measurement of vital signs (note some of these assessments can be taught)
  • Contribute to fostering high quality research output and be a strong team player

 

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Orthoptics, Optometry, or relevant health science degree (and registration with an appropriate board, if required)
  • Excellent clinical ability in Orthoptics/Optometry and/or ophthalmic assisting, with the ability to learn new techniques and procedures
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to adhere to documentation guidelines
