Clinical Research Nurse - Retinal Gene Therapy

This position is located within the Retinal Gene Therapy Unit at the Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA). Our Unit is committed to investigating gene therapy as a potential sight saving treatment and this role will contribute to fostering key developments in this field. Our Unit is driven to help find cures for inherited forms of retinal disease.

Our Unit is led by Dr Thomas Edwards, a vitreo-retinal surgeon with international expertise in gene therapy trials (Oxford, UK) and Associate Professor Lauren Ayton, a clinician-researcher with expertise in clinical trial outcomes and vision restoration therapies.

This role offers the opportunity to work alongside surgeons, clinical trial coordinators, basic science researchers, clinicians and students. We are seeking a person with a nursing background however, applicants who have the required clinical skills from other backgrounds may be considered.

About the role

  • Monitor participant safety in trials and studies which includes performing ECGs, vitals assessment and collection of information regarding any adverse events and reporting events as required
  • Collect biospecimens from research participants that includes phlebotomy, saliva and urine samples as per project protocol
  • Preparation of human samples for shipment to laboratories for analysis that includes processing samples (i.e. separating plasma and serum using a centrifuge), aliquoting samples (note, lab training can be provided and preparation of samples for shipment (following safe transport guidelines)

 

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Degree in nursing which meets the registration requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a registered Nurse (RN)
  • Current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Competent clinical skills with the ability to learn new techniques and procedures
