About the team
The Communications, Fundraising, and Advocacy team at the Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA) is a passionate and dedicated group committed to advancing CERA’s mission through impactful storytelling, community and consumer engagement, and strategic fundraising initiatives. The team works cohesively to raise awareness, build meaningful relationships, and ensure CERA’s work is effectively communicated and celebrated. Together, they play a vital role in fostering support and driving positive change for people impacted by vision loss and blindness.

The role
As part of the Communications, Fundraising, and Advocacy team, the Events Specialist will work closely with colleagues across Philanthropy, Digital and Publication, and Consumer Involvement to deliver engaging and high-quality events that strengthen relationships with donors, stakeholders, and the wider community.

This is a part-time (0.6) position, with occasional additional paid days of work required around key events. Occasional after-hours work will also be required for evening or weekend events.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the end-to-end management and delivery of key CERA events, including community forums, public lectures, exhibitions, official visits and launches
  • Oversee event budgets and collaborate with external providers to ensure cost-effective and high-quality outcomes
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Coordinate CERA’s involvement in community and partner-hosted events to enhance brand visibility and stakeholder engagement
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, running orders, and event briefings, while managing guest lists and RSVPs
  • Manage and maintain CERA brand assets, collateral and merchandise to support event and marketing initiatives
  • Create PowerPoint materials for presenters at external and internal events, including monthly staff and student forums.

Your skills and experience

  • Proven ability to manage projects and events, while fostering effective collaboration
  • High level interpersonal skills, including the ability to form productive professional relationships and communicate effectively with various stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritise workloads, meet timelines and work under pressure to ensure efficient and effective delivery of services
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint and Excel, as well as online event registration platforms such as Humanitix and Eventbrite
  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and quality in all aspects of event planning and execution
  • A solutions-oriented approach with a commitment to working collaboratively with others and fostering a supportive team environment.

The Centre for Eye Research Australia is a not-for-profit and an international leader in eye research with real world impact. We are an independent Medical Research Institute closely affiliated with the University of Melbourne within the discipline of ophthalmology in the Department of Surgery, Melbourne Medical School. Our staff and students are located at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and 200 Victoria Parade, East Melbourne.
