About the team
The Visual Neurovascular Research team is dedicated to advancing our understanding of how blood flow supports healthy vision. Our work focuses on the intricate relationship between retinal ganglion cells—the nerve cells that carry visual signals to the brain—and the blood vessels that nourish them.
When these cells are deprived of oxygen or nutrients, the result can be irreversible vision loss. That’s why our research seeks to uncover how blood is delivered throughout the visual system, with the ultimate goal of protecting and preserving sight.
Using cutting-edge tools such as two-photon microscopy, we study the dynamic interactions between retinal cells, blood vessels, and the ultra-thin nanotubes that allow them to communicate. Our findings aim to inform new strategies for preventing or treating visual neurodegenerative diseases.
