About the team
The Communications, Fundraising and Advocacy Team at Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA) is dedicated to fostering meaningful relationships with donors and supporters to advance innovative research in eye health. This dynamic and collaborative team plays a vital role in securing philanthropic funding through campaigns, donor stewardship, and impactful storytelling. With a focus on excellence and collaboration, the team ensures that every supporter feels connected to CERA's mission of improving people’s lives through our research.
The role
The Supporter Care Officer, Philanthropy plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth administration and operations of the team’s fundraising and philanthropy programs. Reporting directly to the Head of Philanthropy, this position will:
- Process and manage donations, generate receipts, and maintain accurate financial records
- Maintain the Salesforce database, updating and managing donor records
- Collaborate with the Finance Team to reconcile donations and generate reports
- Respond to donor inquiries via phone, email, or in person, fostering positive relationships and providing exceptional customer service
- Assist in campaigns set set-up and generating reports on fundraising performance and donor engagement
- Provide general administrative assistance to the Communications, Fundraising and Advocacy team as required.

Your skills and experience
- Experience supporting a diverse range of fundraising, philanthropy, and communications functions, ideally within a small team environment
- Familiarity with Salesforce, or a strong willingness to further develop Salesforce capability
- High level interpersonal skills, including the ability to form productive professional relationships and communicate effectively with various stakeholders
- Ability to organise and analyse complex information with precision, including documenting processes and procedures in a clear and systematic manner
- Data accuracy including validation, cross-checking and ongoing maintenance
- Ability to prioritise workloads, meet timelines and work under pressure to ensure efficient and effective delivery of services
- Self-directed and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Proactive problem-solver with a solutions-focused mindset, committed to continuous improvement and fostering a collaborative, supportive team environment
- Naturally curious, inquisitive, and eager to learn.

The Centre for Eye Research Australia is a not-for-profit and an international leader in eye research with real world impact. We are an independent Medical Research Institute closely affiliated with the University of Melbourne within the discipline of ophthalmology in the Department of Surgery, Melbourne Medical School. Our staff and students are located at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and 200 Victoria Parade, East Melbourne.
